
The municipality of Balilihan is located in the interior part of Bohol. It is said to have been so called because of the grass “balili” which grew in abundance in the locality. Balilihan means “a place where plenty of grass grows.” It is said to have been organized as a municipality in 1828. It used to be a part of Baclayon and was sparsely settled. The seat of government was in the then sitio of Bay-sa-Iring but was later transferred to the present site because of the scarcity of water in that area.
In 1902, there was a move to fuse this town with Antequera but was vigorously opposed by the people. The following year, the municipality of Catigbian was annexed to Balilihan under Act No. 370 of the Philippine Commission. In 1879, it had a population of 5,998. This town celebrate its fiesta on the 16th of July in honor of Virgin of Carmel.
Balilihan has a lot of tourist attractions that every guest must see. One of them is the well-known spring, the Bugwak Spring which is located in Barangay Hanopol.

Bugwak Spring is one of the natural wonders in the town of Balilihan. It can be found in barangay Hanopol about 13 kilometers or almost 18 minute drive from the town center. The fresh and cool flowing water is coming from a cave that would definitely calm the minds of visiting tourist.
If you are in the mood for a great adventure and to lighten up your stress, packed up your swimming gears and explore this hidden gem of Balilihan. It is about 30 kilometers away from the Tagbilaran City. It is a perfect spot to unwind and reunite with nature. A great place for nature lover to chill and dive in to its flushing waters.

Cottages or “temporary” shelters are offered with the rate of Php 200 only. It can accommodate for more than 10 guests. It is ideal place for families or group/barkadas to spent with specially in long weekends

If you don’t know how to swim, worry no more because there are available life buoy to rent with the rate of Php50.00 each.

The place has also a mini-store that can provide basic needs for visiting guest. They also offer native delicacies such as banana cue, banana fritters and others.

How to get there?

The municipality of Balilihan is just 14 kilometers away from the city. Visiting guests may take a ride on a Fatima bus going to the town with the fare of 25-30 pesos per person. Just ask the driver to drop you off in their municipal hall in Poblacion. From the super market, hire a motorcycle or habal-habal going to Bugwak Spring which is located in barangay Hanopol. The fare is 100.00 pesos per passenger.

Kawasaan Falls is approximately 5 kilometer from Poblacion, Balilihan, Bohol and likewise 22 kilometers from Tagbilaran City. The falls is accentuated by a green backdrop of tropical plants and rugged cliffs which is beautiful to behold and cascades into a natural pool. The falls sits at the center of a network of hiking trails which poses a great challenge to trekkers.
Camugao Falls is located at Barangay San Isidro in the municipality of Balilihan, about 22 kilometers from Tagbilaran City. The falls has a beautiful backdrop of green and lush vegetation with lots of ferns and other tropical plants. The water cascades into a basin forming a natural pool where people can bathe and refresh themselves.
The Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church stands in the heart of Balilihan Town, about 22 kilometers from Tagbilaran City. It is a place of worship, a center of faith, of the people of Balilihan which are very pious and religious.
The Niluksoan Falls can be found in Barangay Sal-ing of Balilihan Town and is situated at the foot of a hill with tilled lands at its sides looking so much different from that of Camugao and Kawasan. There are no cliffs or mountain sides to contend with. Although the falls is relatively short in terms of height, it is wide and looks like a white, transparent curtain as it falls into the basin. “Lukso” means “to jump” and “Niluksuan” refers to a place jumped over. This may be the reason why the place got its name of “Niluksuan Falls”.
The Mt. Carmel Hill can be found right in the heart of Balilihan Town, about 24 kilometers from Tagbilaran City. A view of the Balilihan Spanish belfry on Our lady of mount Carmel hill in Balilihan. This monument was built in 1836 and completed and inaugurated in 1846. The materials used for this monument were taken by the locals from the nearby coastal.
